Windows'95 Installation Procedure PPP - Netscape v3.0 / Dial-up networking approach. 1 Press "Satrt" and go to programs / accessories, find DIAL-UP Networking and CLICK THAT 2 You will see a program box with "Make a NEW CONNECTION" icon on it 3 Click on the ICON and it will ask if you want to make a connection. YOU DO. 4 If the modem is not installed, it will ask you to install it now. LET IT. (assume successful, proceed) 5 Give your new connection a name - "Teksupport Internet" and press "NEXT" 6 Follow the on-screen instructions. The area code is 03, telephone number 95741244 (Note: NO SPACES) and the country is Australia 61 7 The dial-up adaptor may not be installed, if not Win'95 will do it now - Let it 8 Once you have the Teksupport internet icon in the dial-up networking group, RIGHT CLICK it and open the properties box 9 Make sure the "use country code and area code" is UNCHECKED 10 Press the CONFIGURE button 11 Set your modem speed to 38400 (depending on your modem) 12 Press the OPTION tab 13 Click on the "Bring up terminal windows AFTER dialing" 14 Click on the CONNECTIONS tab 15 Click on the "wait for dial tone" option. (A lot of modems do not "see" Australian dial tones) 16 Click OK to all that 17 Click on the SERVER TYPE button 18 You want the server type to be PPP, win95, Win NT, Internet 19 You want to ENABLE software compression and DISABLE Login to network 20 you want TCP/IP ONLY - make sure that Netbeui and IPX/SPX are UNCHECKED 21 Click on TCP/IP SETTINGS 22 You want to select "Server assigned IP Address" 23 You want to select "specify name and address server" 24 PRIMARY DNS = 203.17.1.1 25 Secondary DNS = 203.9.190.17 26 TICK "Use IP header compression" 27 TICK "use default gateway on remote network" 28 Click OK OK OK and you should be back to the starting point. .......... More to go yet! 29 Click on START button and go to SETTINGS 30 Click on CONTROL PANEL 31 Click on NETWORK 32 You should see a window with what network components are installed 33 Highlight DIAL-UP ADAPTOR and press PROPERTIES 34 It should say "enhanced mode (32bit and 16bit) NDIS driver" 35 Click on the BINDINGS tab, and if this is the first modem connection you should have it setup empty. If you can see TCP/IP with a tick against it, go to step 41. 36 Click OK 37 Highlight the DIAL-UP adaptor and press ADD 38 In the next window, press PROTOCOL and press ADD 39 The system will start building a driver information database 40 Highlight MICROSOFT as a manufacturer, and choose TCP/IP as the network protocol and click ADD 41 You should see in the list of what network components are installed, the following line: TCP/IP > Dial-Up adapter 42 Highlight on the TCP/IP > Dial-Up adapter and press PROPERTIES 43 On the IP address TAB, CLICK: Obtain an IP address automatically 44 Click on the DNS configuration tab 45 Click on the "Enable DNS" 46 Host name = "dialup" 47 Domain Name = "teksupport.net.au" 48 DNS Server Search order is: 203.17.1.1 203.9.190.17 49 WINS Configuration tab - should be DISABLE WINS resolution 50 Click OK OK and windows should reboot itself. LET IT Reboot. Starting up an INTERNET CONNECTION to TEKSUPPORT 51 Double click the new connection you made in MY COMPUTER > DIAL-UP NETWORKING > TEKSUPPORT A dialog box will appear 52 Enter the appropriate USER NAME and PASSWORD details and press the "CONNECT" button (this step is optional, but good practice if you use Windows'95 Plus pack.) 53 WARNING: Step 54 gives you only 5 seconds to enter your name and password details! 54 Double CLICK on the internet connection you made first and it should dial TEKSUPPORT and bring up a terminal window where you put the in your user. You will see "annex user name:" Put in you USERNAME and 55 Enter your PASSWORD and 56 Assuming you entered the above correctly, you will see the rest of the annex page scroll past you screen until you get to the bottom where it will ask you the question: "Press W for Wizard, P for PPP and S for Slip" 57 PRESS P and you will see a stream of characters, then PRESS CONTINUE (or the F7 key) After completing this phase it asks to continue again. PRESS CONTINUE 58 You are now connected via a PPP link to the internet using Windows 95's own TCP/IP stack and can run 32bit winsock applications like Netscape v3 or Microsoft Internet Explorer. 59 MINIMISE the "connected to TEKSUPPORT" window (It stays in the background to control the modem.) 60 Startup your preferred Web application and when finished, exit from that application. 61 When finished MAXMISE the "connected to TEKSUPPORT" window, and CLICK on DISCONNECT This will hang up the modem and disconnect you from the services of the Internet Service Provider.
